Stretch Marks

After pregnancy or a significant weight gain and loss, the abdomen or other area of the body can be left with unsightly stretch marks. Although there are several surgical procedures that can reduce or eliminate certain stretch marks by removing excess skin, there are other alternatives. If you have red or blue stretch marks marring your skin, treating the condition with a process called “cosmetic micropigmentation,” or permanent makeup, can be effective in reducing the appearance of the marks.

Different types of scars

Surface blemishes

Some scars are minor and can be easily improved with cosmetic procedures. These types of scars include those from acne, as well as from surgical incisions. They do not challenge the functioning of the body, but rather are removed for aesthetic reasons. Keloid scars

These are large discolored areas that may sometimes itch, and may be raised. Keloid scars venture out beyond the borders of the trauma and tend to appear on the shoulders, neck and chest.

Hypertrophic scars

Here, in order to compensate for a wound, the body develops a series of raised lesions that are sometimes red and are often discolored, either darker or lighter than one’s natural skin color. Scarring is the result of collagen being overproduced.

Contracture scars

These types of scars result from burns, either from heat or from chemicals. Contracture scars should be immediately treated by a physician, as they can cause serious functional as well as cosmetic damage to the body.
